2025 LTPC Policy and Leadership Fellow - Dr. Mike Tapia’s Immigration Deportation in Texas: Inhumane Policies Build on Crime Falsehoods demonstrates the state’s racially laden justification for its immigration related legislative and policy actions. Further, the growing Immigrant Detention Camps amplify the state’s deceitful, costly, and maltreatment and lasting harm to immigrant families for seeking a better life. Again, this is NOT conservative policymaking.

National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON)

Even a small act of kindness is huge for the person who receives it. And all of us benefit when each of us steps forward to do our part defending the lives and safety of immigrants.

Here are ten powerful ways you can directly and personally support immigrants during this ongoing crisis of anti-immigrant brutality and violence:

1. Adopt a Day-Labor Corner
If you are not at risk of deportation, show up in visible solidarity with immigrant workers at local hiring corners. Click here to learn how to be a consistent, safe, and supportive presence.

2. Donate Directly to Families in Need
NDLON is gathering GoFundMe campaigns for immigrant families harmed by raids. Send your support directly — click here to contribute.

3. Support the Mano-a-Mano Program in Pasadena
Volunteer to help deliver groceries, essential items, and solidarity to families affected by ICE activity. Click here to join the effort.

4. Contribute to the Immigrant Defense Fund
Support legal defense and advocacy for immigrant workers asserting their rights. Every dollar helps provide legal aid, know-your-rights training, and community organizing. Click here to donate.

5. Hire a Day Laborer

Connect with workers through local job centers like the Pasadena Community Job Center and provide dignified employment at a fair wage.

6. Support an Immigrant-Owned Small Business
Visit neighborhoods where ICE has been active. Many immigrant-owned businesses are hurting — become a loyal customer and help them rebuild.

7. Accompany Someone to Immigration Court or ICE Check-ins
Volunteer to go with someone to their immigration appointment. Your presence as a witness can offer protection and emotional support. Reach out to local immigrant justice networks to get connected.

8. Use and Distribute Silbatos (Whistles) to Alert the Community
In cities like Chicago and LA, communities use whistles to warn each other of ICE presence or raids. Carry a whistle, distribute them, and educate others on how to respond. This simple tool can help protect lives. Click here to learn more.

9. Attend a Protest or Vigil
Show up in the streets. Whether it's a march, rally, or vigil, your physical presence sends a strong message that immigrant rights are human rights. Take this action from NY as inspiration for your actions.

10. Support “ICE Out of (Your City)” Campaigns
Attend city council meetings, rallies, or community events calling for an end to local cooperation with ICE. Your voice matters.

In gratitude and solidarity,

Erika Andiola

Political Director, NDLON
